Do you attend conferences, seminars or live events regularly for personal and professional development?

For more than two decades, I find myself attending a lot of international conferences and events, as an attendee or as a keynote speaker.

In these events, I meet a lot of people and I always like to ask one question:

“Why do you attend this event?”

I assumed that if a person (or his/her firm) spend a lot of money and time to register to the event and travel, they have a very clear vision what do they want to achieve from it.

I was disappointed to find out that many times this is not the case.

I have a very clear rule for myself, that I like to implement to help me decide if I should join an event or skip it:

Will I gain any knowledge or learn something from the information shared at the event and/or from the participants in the event, that can advance my business or my personal life?

So to help you decide why should you join an event, here are 5 important reasons:

1. Content

Every participant in an event hopes to learn something new that could be used or implemented immediately.

Learning is an ongoing process.

A professional or an entrepreneur needs all the time to gain new knowledge and new ideas to get advance in his/her business.

Every event is full of content to be delivered to the attendees.

Many times part of this content can only be shared in the live event and in no other way.

So if you will not participate in the event, you may miss on this content.

2. Cooperation/ Collaboration

Participating in an event with others create mutual experiences and get you closer to others.

If you use your time wisely you will be able to meet people and start building authentic relationships with them.

By interacting with other attendees you will discover mutual opportunities to cooperate.

Meeting face-to-face with others get you to bond with them and you’ll likely to meet potential clients and maybe potential alliances or partners.

3. Contribution

Every event can contribute enormously to your perspectives about a specific subject.

A live event is a great opportunity to share about your business and plans with other people in the field.

Even people who do not know you may contribute innovative and insightful ideas to your business as well as stimulate your own fresh thinking.

This contribution can be very important for your business and developing new ways of growing and expanding your business…

…so you need to pay attention!

4. Comfort zone

For many people, live events are away out of their comfort zone.

For many reasons, they do not feel comfortable in networking and having conversations with strangers [in my previous blogs I discuss some valuable ideas for networking and for networking for shy people].

But as you should know, if you put yourself in a position where you have to stretch outside your comfort zone, then you are forced to expand your consciousness.

If for only one reason you should join a live event or conference is to move out of your comfort zone.

You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.

You will get inspired by others and more motivated to accelerate your activities.

5. Creativity

Creativity is another important component in advancing your business.

When you join a live event, you will go out of your day-to-day routine and you will get to learn new creative ideas.

You will be exposed to other creative solutions implemented successfully by others that you can easily implement also in your business.

Developing your creativity helps you be unique in the marketplace and attract new clients and partners to you.

So you want to build more relationship?
Do you want to gain more knowledge?
Do you want to connect with more people?
Please consider joining more live events in the coming year, but learn to choose them carefully!
